templepatrick - the las vegas of county antrim

Tuesday, July 8 2008 at 9:09 am

You notice things more when you’re on a bike compared to driving along, cocooned in your comfy car. Wind direction, surface gradient, slippery death-dealing manhole covers, the glass and debris in the gutter, and things at the side of the road. I noticed the sign below as I cycled through Templepatrick (a village in County Antrim, Northern Ireland) the other evening. It’s remarkable the number of times I’d driven through the village before and I never realised that it was actually the the Las Vegas of County Antrim. Who would have thought!?

Templepatrick - Twinned with Las Vegas.

Templepatrick - Twinned with Las Vegas.

Templepatrick - By Night.

Templepatrick - By Night.

Or is it Las Vegas, Nevada? I can’t tell the difference myself.
